Advocates, elected officials, jurisdiction staff, and the general public are all welcome to attend and participate in Active Transportation Committee meetings.
The purposes of the Regional Active Transportation Committee include but are not limited to keeping MVRPC staff up to date on active transportation planning and infrastructure planning in our member communities, updating and facilitating the implementation of the active transportation plan, and information sharing. Background
Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission completed the Miami Valley Regional Bike Plan in 2015. And in 2021, expanded the 20-year Regional Bike Plan beyond a single focus on bicycling to include walking, biking and transit access and will be the first active transportation plan for the Miami Valley Region.
An active transportation plan is a comprehensive review of infrastructure and policies to make walking, biking and transit use easy, convenient and safe choices for mobility in the Region. The plan is to give the same attention to connectivity, safety and equity to sidewalks and transit access as we have to bike facilities in past plans.
The Miami Valley Active Regional Transportation Plan will focus comprehensively on the transport of people and/ or goods through non-vehicular means of transportation, based around human physical activity. It will align closely with the Ohio Department of Transportation Walk.Bike.Ohio statewide bike and pedestrian policy plan, the State of Ohio’s first bike and pedestrian plan.
Plan Vision & Goals
The Miami Valley’s Active Transportation network provides safe and equitable walking, biking and transit connections which enhance access to opportunity, well-being, environmental benefits and quality of life for all.
Public Input
Public listening sessions were held during the month of November 2021. Additionally, an online survey was available for those who were unable to attend public meetings.
The public listening sessions and online survey provided opportunities for bicyclists, pedestrians, transit users, local government agencies, parks districts, and community stakeholders to share feedback on the priorities and needs of the Miami Valley Regional Active Transportation Plan. Below are documents summarizing the public input and maps of comments and suggested improvements.
